HOW GREAT IS YOUR WORKS O LORD!
Psalms 92
For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!
(Psalms 92: 4-5)
Did you know that the total length of your circulatory system, including blood vessels, stretches an amazing nearly 100,000 miles (161,000 km) in an adult? The diameter of the earth at Equator is around 25,000 miles that mean if the blood vessels of an adult were lined up end to end, they would circle the earth four times!! This is just one minor example of the wonders of God’s amazing works in our universe? And as we know more and more we will understand God’s powers and acknowledge that all beings must be loved equally by us.
1. We need to Experience the power of God’s creative powers
The famous poet William Wordsworth beautifully writes about god’s signature mark in cosmic creation -“In all things, in all nature, in the stars this active principle abides, from link to link it circulates the souls of all the worlds” (Excursion). When we look into the world the world is so amazing. The glory of our God can be experienced in His creation. God’s creation is not stagnant in our life but continuing each moment of our life. God creates 100 billion blood cells each day in our body! Isn’t that amazing? King David had power to destroy and create things. But when he prayed and meditated on God his vision changed. He experienced its mysterious powers and its beauty. So he was compelled to admit that God’s creation and His glory can be explicitly seen in the beauty of each creature. But God’s powers can never be experienced by a logical mind or a skeptical mind which understands creation as without an original cause. We need to perceive it with prayerful and faithful eyes to experience the Glory of God radiating in each creature on earth.
2. We need to witness creation as our neighbor
“Love your neighbor as you love yourself”. Christ commandment has to be extended to all of God’s creation not just to humanity. Experiencing the glory of God in creation will lead us to witness to the world His Glory. We are called out by Jesus to witness Christ each moment of our life. As we interact with other fellow beings we can share this experience of God’s power as King David wrote in Psalms 92. Witnessing is not a passive experience it’s a positive experience of deep love for nature and experiencing it as my fellow being. Creation is not dumb and silent. We need to listen to it reaching out to us and loving us. In this world where God’s world and its natural resource is understood as a commodity to be bought and sold and destroyed for profit we need to make an essential difference. Like King David witnessed in Psalms 24:1-2 “the earth is the Lord’s and all it contains”. If we acknowledge and witness God’s sovereignty over all creation we can never allow nature to be destroyed for greed or for human wants.
Prayer: Lord, help us to experience your presence and power in your creation and to witness creation as my neighbor.
