Word for the day by Christian Education Forum
WELL DONE,
GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT
Matthew: 25: 14-30.
" His
master said to him, well done good and faithful servant. You have been faithful
over a little, I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your
master." (Matthew: 25: 21)
In the famous
parable of the talents, Jesus speaks of three people who were
given something to invest; each according to his ability. Please note that God will give us only according to the
ability to handle. If we did not get the same talents as our neighbor, don't
worry; just use what He gave us. The first man doubled the talents entrusted to
him by the master. The second also did the same. But the third one feared to
handle his talent and buried it.
Fear is our number one enemy. It freezes
our faith and cripples our creativity. Our money, time, talent, love etc.,
are seeds that must be sown. Everything God gives us is meant to be multiplied.
By failing to do so we eventually lose it. Christ's parable ends with these
sobering words, " Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has
the ten talents." (V. 28) The Bible says, " Whoever sows sparingly will
also reap sparingly and whoever sows generously will also reap
generously"(2 Cori: 9:6)
To succeed in life we must seek God's
direction, prepare ourselves, work hard and invest in the right things.
Remember that material success is not the whole thing. God's real objective is
to take us as a channel through which His blessings flow to others. God is not
opposed to us owning material things as long as they do not own us. God wants
our greatest joy to be in Him, the giver, not the gifts. Money can be a tool
for good or evil, and one reason God wants us to have it is to make sure it
gets to the right places and fulfill His purposes.
Consistent sowing guarantees consistent
reaping. Each seed planted schedules a harvest. Is it not worth forfeiting
a few luxuries now in order to be secure later by multiplying our God given
talents, to be in a position to fulfill God's purposes and hear Him say "
Well done, good and faithful servant ". So the word for you today is- Use
what God gave you. Even though there are differences in talents (it is the
diversity that makes the world beautiful and colorful), there is equality is
several other things: equality in opportunity; equality in responsibility/
accountability; and equality in reward.
Prayer: Loving
Heavenly father, we praise you for bestowing us with talents, according to our
ability. Help us to trade it properly so as to multiply them and eventually to
hear you saying, “Well done good and faithful servant". In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
