Living in the Light
“If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have
fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us
from all sin.” 1 John 1:7
I once read a
story about a young boy who found some quail eggs in a field. The nest in
which the eggs rested had been torn apart by farm equipment. The boy
realized that the eggs would not survive because of this and decided to rescue
them. He took them home, put them under a light, and hatched them under a
light. The boy was overjoyed - all the quail survived.
Light
gives life, not just in the preceding story, but every day as Christ rescues us
from sin by the power of his blood. The source of eternal life for a true
believer is the Word of Life, Jesus Christ the Son of God. The Son, the Word
Incarnate, came to grant us life. Through the Word, Jesus Christ, the Light of
the World, we have fellowship with God the Father and such fellowship brings joy
and brings us into His light.
What does it
mean to be in the light? 1 John 1:5-6 states that “God
is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have
fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live
out the truth.” People who are in the light” see the real nature of
their sins and repent of them before God, while others choose to stay in the
darkness.
Living in the
light of Christ is possible for sinners like you and I.
v
We must believe in the power of
the blood of Jesus Christ to bring us out of the darkness and into the
light. We must personally confess our sins and bring them into His light
so that we can be cleansed and made part of that light.
v
We must strive to continuously
walk in His light. We must come before Him daily in both prayer and
meditation so that The Holy Spirit will continue His work in us to keep us out
of sin and stay in the light.
v
We must share the light.
“Hide it under a bushel – no! I’m going to let it shine!” Let that be the song
of our heart – fulfill our calling to share Jesus Christ who is the
Light. As we are filled with the Holy Spirit and live in the light of
Christ, our light will shine into the darkness and illuminate the minds and
hearts of those around us.
Prayer: Thank you Father for your Son
Jesus Christ who cleanses us from our sins. May your light fill us and
shine through us into the darkness of this world. Amen.
