Fruit of the spirit
“ Those who
belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and
desires.”
Paul in his letter to the
Galatians chapter 5 is where we read about the fruit of the Holy Spirit. The
supreme evidence, the overwhelming evidence of the spiritual life of a
Christian should be love. 1 John 4:8 “God is love” when the spirit of God is
dwelling in us, then what greater effect we have upon us, is that we then
become lovers of God and human.
The works of flesh are:
fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife,
jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing,
etc..(Gal 5:20,21). These evils keep us away from God and those who do
such things will not inherit kingdom of God. Our world is full of darkness with
the works of the flesh and the only means to prevent these dark nesses is by
producing the fruit of the Spirit
Every Christian is entrusted to
produce the fruit of the Spirit. I am not saying a Christian is perfect and he
never falls, but we need the spirit of Jesus. The Holy Spirit convicts us,
corrects us, puts our feet back on the path again, comforts us, renews us, and shows
us where we need repentance.
Now to inherit the kingdom of
God, Bible says to be fruitful by the Spirit of God. (Galatians 5:22).
This is where I find something interesting, “the fruit” is singular, “the
spirit” also singular it represents one thing love and it has different facets
Joy and Peace. Let us have Agape in our lives, the unconditional love
towards others just as Jesus Christ showed us.
Prayer: Dear God, give us your spirit to produce the
fruit of the spirit. Amen
