“Serve wholeheartedly, as
if you were serving the Lord” (Ephesians 6: 7)
The first person to place
their eyes on you, the first word you say, the one who watches/nurtures you
daily to see you grow into an adult is none other than your Mother.
Amongst the all the individuals that are placed in your life, a mother
personally knows their child’s strengths and shortcomings. Mothers are essential
in instilling in us basic life principles to include our spiritual growth as
well as nurturing us to become our full potential as individuals. God has
handpicked each individual in your family for a reason. Mothers serve in
so many different ways, not only within their family but also in their
community and career.
God has designed mothers
with unique characteristics and qualities that no one else can replace. God has
created this role to mold us to become strong in our faith as Christians. Eve,
Hannah, Jochebed, are just a few examples of different women who taught us
different lessons from a mother’s perspective. Eve had the challenge of dealing
with Satan trying to ruin her family life. Hannah earnestly prayed to have a
family, she approached God with a genuine concern, seeked his guidance and God
answered her prayer. She made a vow to God that she would dedicate her child
for God’s purposes. It was because of her dedication that God blessed her with
Samuel who later became a prophet. Jochebed placed Moses upbringing into the
hands of another woman. She wanted to give him a life and in an attempt
to rescue him from knew he would be placed in a good environment, and as a
result he became a great leader. Ruth, as a widow kept her relationship with
Naomi, her mother-in-law because she cared. God saw her heart to take
care of Naomi and ended up blessing her with a new family. All these
women had a heart to serve their families and ultimately serve God. They all
were given blessings as a result of their obedience to God.
Think of all the women
role models in your life, mother, grandmother, aunts, cousins, friends; how
have they shaped your perspectives on life and challenged you to grow in your
faith? These role models have given us so much guidance at such crucial
times in our life. Let us thank God for creating such unique mothers who
give us life.
Prayer: Thank you for the faith
that you have taught through our Mothers, continue to nurture them to serve us
in ways according to your will.
Thought for the day: When you serve
others, God will bless you abundantly.
