“So,
because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my
mouth.”
I
always enjoy this time of the year, not due to cold weather (especially if you
are in a region where it gets depressingly chilly), but because several sports
seasons enter a very interesting phase. The National Hockey Leagues is in the
middle of its season. The National Basketball League is about to host it’s All
Star weekend and several basketball trades are made to strengthen teams.
Baseball players are now thinking about getting physically ready for spring
training and the National Football League is primed and ready to play for the
Super Bowl. Let’s not forget all the college sports that happen around this
time of the year. This is also the time of the year when many sports fans, like
yourself, will possibly jump on certain bandwagon’s cheering for the most
“winning”-est team. This may be due to the fact your own home team has already
bowed out of the championship race or for the fact that your own home team is
not very good and would rather sport the logo of a winning team.
At
the end of the day, in sports when it comes to crowning a championship, there
can only be one winner. In this case, sports fans need to choose the side they
are going to root for. There will be fans will ensure they continue to provide
the most support for their team no matter what the outcome is. There maybe also
be those fans that are wishy-washy going between both teams – but they are not
taken very seriously as legitimate sports fans. In fact, most likely, real
sports fans will be able to see through this and not even value their input
because they are on the fence with their decision on who they will support.
Likewise,
in the text of this passage, it clearly states in Revelation 3:16 that if you
are on the fence about your commitment as a Christian you are creating more
problems for yourself by being lukewarm about your belief. The way that it is
described in this verse to us is that it considers cold water to provide one
with a source of refreshment and hot water to provide a source of rejuvenation
… however lukewarm water provides neither.
Prayer: Almighty Lord, whether
I am hot or cold in my faith, enable me to be steadfast and not lukewarm.
