Deliverance through Jesus, our Passover Lamb

“He will see the blood …….and will pass over that doorway and He will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.” (v.23)

Israel was in bondage for 400 years and served as slaves in Egypt. God sent 9 plagues against Egypt and the passage above picks up just before the final plague that God would send to humble Pharaoh so that he would let God’s people go. He gave Moses instructions for the people of Israel to prepare for this great plague to come. They were to quickly prepare a Passover lamb, slaughter it and take the blood of that lamb and sprinkle it on the top and sides of the doorframe.

The Israelites did not know the meaning behind this command, but they were instructed to obey and make it into a tradition so their future generations would ask and be reminded of the deliverance of God. After the feast, God sent judgment into the land and the destroyer killed the firstborn in every house in Egypt; however, God also promised his protection and would pass over any house that had the blood on the doorpost.

As the first Passover marked the deliverance of Israelites from Egyptian slavery, so the death of Christ, our Passover Lamb marks our deliverance from the slavery of sin. God gave His Son Jesus Christ as the Passover Lamb for you and me. The sacrificial death of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary is the ONLY way out from death and destruction. We must be covered by the blood of Christ in order for the destroyer to “pass over” us. Just like the Israelites obeyed the statute and remained under the cover of the blood, we must stay under the blood of Christ to be delivered from the destroyer.

There is no worship under the rule of Pharaoh! We need to come out of Egypt or from the slavery of sin to worship and serve the living God. He is willing to deliver us from our bondage, but we need to quickly go under the protection of the blood of Christ and remain with Him. There is power in the blood of Christ, power to deliver, power to heal, power to renew and transform lives! All we need to do is submit to His Lordship! Why settle for Egypt, why not give our lives to Christ and journey with Him to the Promised Land and spend eternity with our Heavenly Father?

Prayer: Almighty Father, I need your abiding presence and protection. Keep me under the cover of your blood. In Jesus name I pray… Amen!

Thought for the day: Stay under the blood of our Passover Lamb!
