Christ the Way, Truth, and the Life
“Do not be
afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring
you today.” (V.13)
In this final escape from the Egyptians,
the Israelites find themselves in the desert flanked by mountains on the east
and west, the Red Sea before them and Pharaoh’s army of six hundred of his best
chariots and officers following them. What must have been the feelings of
the Israelites? In this passage we see that fear griped the Israelites,
“they were terrified and cried out to the Lord (v.10).” They then began
to wonder whether their freedom was worth fighting for or whether they should
of remained complacent under the rule of the Egyptians, “Didn’t we say to you
in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone…” Even through this fear, the Lord guided the
Israelites and showed the Egyptians that He is Lord.
Christ the Way, Truth, and the Life
In what seemed like an impossible
situation, God showed the Israelites that he will guide them on their way to
the Promised Land. He made what seemed impossible, possible. We all
face what might be seemingly impossible situations, whether in be in school,
work or our family lives. The difference is whether we choose to face the
impossible with fear or with faith. In this passage, the Israelites faced
their future with fear and that fear immediately made them rebellious. They
began to question the purpose of their freedom instead of embracing that
freedom. God was trying to show them that he is the reason for their
freedom and they needed to trust Him. We should remember how faithful God
has been in our lives; God can be trusted. The Israelites’ trust was
blocked by fear of the future when it should have been solidified with a simple
look back at God’s deliverance. Christ is the way because he is the
mediator between God and his people. He is the only one to walk on the
Earth to show us an example of how we should live our life.
Truth is defined as actual, real, or
fact. John 8:23-24, proclaims that truth can set us free from the bondage
of sin. By abiding in the Lord’s teachings, we can know the truth and the
freedom it offers. In verse 18, God reveals the truth, “…I am the
Lord.” The life that Christ offers is abundant and eternal and he offers
it in us.
Prayer: Lord, please help us to remember that only you
can turn the impossible to possible and that all that is required of us is
faith and trust that you are the Way, the Truth and the Life now and always.
Amen.
Thought for the Day: Christ is the Way to the Father because
he is the mediator between God and man and he is our Redeemer. He is the
Truth because he is God Incarnate, and he tells truth in all he says. He
is the Life we aspire to, the eternal life with God.
