Reformed by the Word
2 Timothy 4:10-17
Benny Philip
17 But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength,
so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles
might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth.
In today’s passage, Paul was basically giving his last will and testament to the church. If you knew your days were numbered, what legacy would you leave behind that would benefit the body of Christ?
A key part of discipleship is sharing what you are learning with a fellow believer. It’s very important that we know how to be disciple-makers. When we are truly reformed by the Word, our lives will show it by our lifestyle and actions. Many people might read today’s passage and come to the conclusion that it’s specifically written for pastors/achens/bishops as church leaders. I believe this is for each and every believer as well. We are the church and we carry the word with us wherever we go. One of the greatest gifts you can give to someone is to touch their life spiritually.
In our diocese, we currently hear a lot of talk of the relevance of the Mar Thoma Church in America. We should ask ourselves, what are we doing to improve this? How are we as believers building each other up to further God’s Kingdom? If we try to think of ways to spiritually revive our churches, it will do amazing wonders. The younger generation can do so much to build the faith of those around us. Let’s all make it a goal to reach out to at least one person and commit to be spiritually accountable to each other. Our mission field always starts at home and church should be our second home. Many of us reading this devotional are leaders at their churches, etc in one way or another. There are definitely people we can influence and show the importance of daily devotions, quiet time and prayer. When we are reformed we need to pass that fire on to someone else.

Prayer: Father,
help us to have the zeal of Paul and preach the Word to all we come across.
Show us to truly live the word and be reformed by it. Help us to ignite our
brothers and sisters around us with your fire. Amen.
