9 But you are a chosen
race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that
you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his
marvelous light.
In this passage, Peter draws attention to the focus of people as “living stones,” built upon Jesus as the “cornerstone,” upon which our Faith is founded and built upon. The significance of the cornerstone is that, if it is not set in the proper place, it will not be able to provide support for the other neighboring stones placed beside it, and the whole building, or in our case, the Church of God, will collapse. We rest assure, as Christians, that Jesus is our strength and our firm foundation upon which the Body of Christ, the Church is built upon.
As members of Christ’s Body, we are called to be set apart as Christians. 1 Peter 2: 9 powerfully describes our calling as Christians in this world. “We are a chosen race, royal priesthood, a holy nation, people for His own possession”—we as Christians are representatives of Him who IN Love, freely gave Himself up for us.
These titles however come with a responsibility. We are living testimonies of His mercy, grace and love on a day to day basis. Peter does not simply say we are chosen, but he states that we are chosen, so that “we may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.” Through Christ, we have salvation and redemption from the bondage of sins—this is a truth that ought to be shared through our ministry, thoughts, and deeds. We must push on and be challenged to live more and more like Christ, as we are witnesses of His gift of life.

PRAYER
Father, we come before
You, humbled by who You are. Thank You for choosing us, for loving us,
and for molding us to become more like You. Give us the strength to
proclaim Your praises in the darkest places of this world, and truly live as
witnesses of Your grace and mercy. Amen.
