Spirituality of Youth in the Modern
Age

7 Yet whatever gains I had, these I have come to
regard as loss because of Christ. 8 More than that, I regard everything as loss because
of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have
suffered the loss of all things, and I regard them as rubbish, in order that I
may gain Christ.
Growing up, the youth of today has had access to nearly everything at their fingertips due to the advancement of technology and the accessibility that computers, phones, and tablets provide. It is so easy to get caught up in these things and forget about the world around us and, more importantly, forget the reason why we were placed in this world in the first place.
Paul tells the Philippians to not put their trust in worldly things and to not receive pleasure from them but to serve the Lord by proclaiming His name. We are constantly surrounded by people who are so consumed by wealth and possessions, which can be taken away in a heartbeat.
As Christians, we are called to rise above these temptations and understand that our treasure is in heaven and our reward is eternal life. We must keep this in mind at all times. As Paul says in verse 14, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Let us follow Paul’s example and truly be set apart in this modern world.

PRAYER
God, give us the strength to resist the desires of
the flesh and overcome the temptations of this world. Continue to give us a
renewed focus on You and the calling that You have given us as your servants.
Lord, we thank You for the life you've given us and we pray that we
are able to glorify Your name through every aspect. Amen.
THOUGHT
FOR THE DAY:
We may live in this world but we are not of this world. We must resist worldly desires and be set apart for the Lord.
