Living Worthy of Your Calling

2 The Lord looks down from heaven on humankind to
see if there are any who are wise, who seek after God.
As we have begun the New Year, we will all make new resolutions and promises. How do we navigate through this life, this New Year by living worthy of our calling in a world surrounded by turmoil and temptation?
Psalm 14 starts with the description of a fool, who in this context is one who is morally deficient. He says in his heart “there is no God” as those around him including himself are corrupt and do no good. We live in a society today where we are surrounded by others who believe the same and therefore justify committing sin. We as Christians should not fall into these social norms, but speak on our faith in our school, college, and work places.
When God looks down he does not see anyone who does good. This is not meant to discourage us. Everyone is born into sin and is sinful in nature. However, to do good is a choice. As Christians, how do we discern what is good or bad in a world where there is so much room for gray areas? God wants the children of men to seek him, and to understand him. Proverbs 1:7 states, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” When you seek God you gain understanding and discernment, which is wisdom. Fools despise this because in seeking God you are ultimately submitting to His will. Submitting to God requires us to discard our sinful nature. As Christians, this is especially hard because we are meant to be different in this world, and therefore we may have many more obstacles in our way. However, Psalm 14 v.5-6 states that “…God is with the generation of the righteous…You shame the counsel of the poor, but the Lord is his refuge.”
Studying to achieve wisdom through God is limitless, and there is always more to learn. Understand that this is your calling, and doing good will come naturally thereafter. As you begin a new year, learn to seek God and understand Him. I hope each of us chooses to make this New Year worthwhile by living a stronger Christian life.
