Seeking the Unknown
Exodus 2: 1-10
Smrithi Mathew

St. Stephens MTC, NJ
3 When she could hide him no longer she got a papyrus basket for him, and plastered it with bitumen and pitch; she put the child in it and placed it among the reeds on the bank of the river.

When a child is born, his path is unknown to the world. All that is known is that he/she is a gift from God filled with innocence and purity. However God has a purpose and plan for each and every one of his children. This portion from Exodus speaks of the early life of a Hebrew boy named Moses who became a great leader of Israel freeing his people from slavery.
In this passage, we see that Moses was born as a Hebrew child in a time where all Hebrew boys were to be drowned at birth(Exodus 1:16). However his mother knew the importance of the innocent child God had gifted her and protected him by sending him down the Nile river. Without knowing what would happen, she trusted that God had a plan, a purpose for Moses. Likewise the Pharaoh’s daughter also saw the potential unknown possibilities for this Hebrew child and protected him by calling him her own instead of killing him (Exodus 2: 10). Through the initial protection of his mother and the Pharaoh’s daughter, Moses went onto free the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt (Exodus 13: 17-21).

God places people and events in each of his children’s lives in order to mold them.  If Moses would not have been taken in by the Pharaoh’s daughter, would he have been able to do all the great things God had planned for him? In the same way, let us not look at the obstacles of our lives as something which hinders us but with God redirecting us to a great future. Everything happens for a reason and God has a plan for each and every one of us just as he had a plan for Moses. Let us not look unto ourselves for a plan but trust in the Lord for He has a vision for our future.

PRAYER

O Lord, give us the wisdom to seek the unknown path that You have put before us. Strengthen us to trust Your will and not our own knowledge. Amen
