Encouraging
Children to Walk in Truth

4 I have no greater joy than this,
to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
We have a lot of expectations and concerns about our
children even before they are born. What do we teach them? How do we raise
them? What will they become in life? Just like verse 4 says, “there is
absolutely nothing that makes us happier than to see our children live in the
truth.” This truth is our Saviour Jesus Christ. John 14:6 reads, “Jesus
answered, ‘ I am the way, the truth and the life; no one goes to the Father
except by Me.” In order for us to reach our heavenly Father, we must first abide in
Jesus, for He is the faithful witness (Revelation 1:5). A faithful witness is
one whose words and actions are reliable every time. Jesus is the epitome
of the meaning of truth. One of the greatest gifts we can give to our children
is showing them the way of Christ. Proverbs 22:6 states, “Teach a child how he
should live, and he will remember it all his life.” If we teach our children
while they are young, they will forever follow the way of life that we taught
them. It is much harder to teach children as they grow older because they begin
to develop opinions for themselves and make their own decisions. The Psalmist
says that we must tell our next generation children about the Lord’s power and
about His great deeds and all of the wonderful things he has done. The gift of
eternal life comes to people who believe Jesus as the truth. Our greatest
responsibility should be to ensure that our children receive the gift of
eternal life. Solomon’s proverb teaches us that honest people are safe and
secure; honesty makes a good man’s life easier and keeps the righteous
protected from trouble. Our lives in this world are only temporary, no matter
what difficulties or hardship we face, we must always remember to keep firm in
our faith because our ultimate destination is to have eternal life in Heaven
with our Saviour. As Christians, we are to be like Christ and to be examples to
our younger generation so that they too may grow in Him.
PRAYER
Dear Father, allow us to raise our
children in truth. Help us to realize that with you, our children will have
everything but without you, they will have nothing. In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen.
