Believing in ‘Christ the Truth’
John 14:1-7
John 14:1-7

1. “Do not let your hearts be
troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me.
The context of this
passage gives us a sense of the confusion in the minds of the disciples. Jesus
had just told them that He was going to be betrayed by one of them. He predicts
that Peter will deny Him three times and He then tells them, 'Where I am going,
you cannot come.’ John 13:33.
In the given passage we see Jesus gives comfort for not only the troubled hearts of the disciples but also for those of us going through tough times. Jesus offer three comforts for the troubled soul.
1. "I go to prepare a place for you." We can take comfort in the fact that Jesus has prepared a place for us in heaven in the presence of His Father. This promise is so not just to the disciples but to all who shall die in Jesus Christ. Whatever be our sins, however numerous or egregious, if we confess our sins, the Lord is ready to forgive us and take us to the place that He has already prepared for us.
2. "I will come again and will take you to myself." What great joy this must have given the disciples to know that in the end their beloved Jesus would Himself come and receive them and take them with Him. The Bible talks of the second coming of Jesus where all the dearly beloved of Him will be taken up to heaven in the rapture.
3. “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me". Jesus shows the disciples and us the way to the Father. How comforting it is for us and the disciples to know that they have an advocate who will intercede on their behalf.
Jesus here does not deny that the path that He and we tread is a " bed of roses". He is acknowledging here that we will have troubles in our Christian path but if we are to hold on to the above three promises, we can rest assured that our life would not have been in vain and we too like Paul can say" 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7

PRAYER
Dear God, please help us to
become less anxious and pray, with fully believing hearts, to You in every
situation with thanksgiving. Give us the strength to face new struggles. Mold
us into how you want us to be and let us understand that your peace will guard
our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
"God has a plan. Believe in it. Live it. Enjoy
it." Richardson
