Holy Marriage- Lasting Life of Love
Glory Chacko
Epiphany MTC, NY
31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother
and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
God has revealed His heart
regarding marriage in the above verses, the two will become one flesh.
Marriage is a divine covenant between a man and a woman. In Genesis, we see the
first marriage, where God Himself is finding a suitable partner for Adam.
God instituted marriage to portray His relationship with His chosen people.
However,
at this present time, marriage is being redefined by our society. Marriage is
becoming less and less like a holy covenant and more of a contract. Divorce
rates are high, even in the church community. Obtaining financial
stability is one of the top priorities in the families today. This leads to a
lack of time to build up their relationships by spending time with
one another. As technology has advanced , the influx of social media and other
devices are also interfering with the intimate communication between the
couple.
How
can we strengthen the marriage relationship? In Ephesians 5:20-31, Apostle Paul
is instructing the husbands and wives to love and respect each other as Christ
loved the Church. When the couple demonstrates unconditional love
and respect towards each other, marriage life can be strengthened.
This does not mean that all Christians will have a perfect marriage. There will
be periods of crisis and disappointments. These difficulties can often be
dealt with prayer and drawing strength from God together on a daily basis. The
couple should openly communicate with each other about what they are struggling
with.
As
we continue to cherish our marriage here on earth, let's also remember to
strengthen our relationship with the coming Bridegroom, our Lord Jesus Christ.
We are His Bride as members of the Church. Also, we need to remember that
our earthly marriage should be a reflection of Christ and His Bride-the
Church.
As we build our marriages on love, respect , trust and submission ,
we should let God help us to accomplish His divine purpose through us.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gift of marriage life. Help us to
make our marriage, a life of lasting love. In Jesus name we pray, Amen
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
"As God by
creation made two of one, so again by marriage He made one of
two.” Thomas Adam
