An Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and
Omniscient God.

11.On that day I will raise up the booth of David that is
fallen, and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as
in the days of old;12 in order that they may possess the remnant of
Edom and all the nations who are called by my name, says the Lord who
does this.
Amos is sharing
his fifth and last prophecy with Israel which is about the judgement of God to
those who continue to not repent. Despite recognizing God’s sovereignty and
power, the very same Israelites who were brought out of Egypt by God, are
turning their hearts from the Lord and living apart from Him.
In Amos'
prophecy, the Israelites are attempting to hide themselves from God, from the
depths below, to the heavens above, from the bottom of the sea, to the top of
Mt. Carmel.
Many of us are
blessed to say that we know and love the Lord. At some point in our lives we
have made a conscious decision to accept the gift of salvation that comes from
Jesus. However, as we age and go through new life experiences, it is easy for
us to let our firm grasp of faith and devotion to God slowly out of our hands
and into our closets where it is hidden away. Yet, we continue to sing the same
songs of grace and mercy while living a life contrary to the Gospel we have
believed.
God’s judgement
is a very real thing. It is not an easy idea to think about or accept, but it
clearly states in Amos’ prophecy in chapter 9 what happens to those
who continue to hide from the Lord and choose not to repent.
When we walk down
a path that is not of God, it is easy for the devil to convince us to stay on
that path. To continue indulging in the sin we have found ourselves in because
the shame the devil has attached to confessing to God is not worth the
redemption we are close to receiving. We continue to acknowledge the truth, but
sheepishly try and hide the sin in our lives deep where we think God cannot
find it.
Hebrews 4:13
reads, “Nothing in creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered
and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”
It is time that
we face our Creator and verbally confess and repent of our wrongdoings to Him.
No matter how far we attempt to stray from the Lord He is there and ready to
accept us back into His arms. He is able to forgive us of the things we
never thought we would let ourselves do.
PRAYER
Father,
help us to come to You in our weaknesses and sins knowing that You are greater.
Help us to remember the great warmth Your presence brings to our life and be
able to know that when we fall, You are there to catch us. Empower us to stop dabbling
in sinful pleasures that take us further and further away from You. In Jesus
Name we pray. Amen
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
“For as
high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for
those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he
removed our transgressions from us.” Psalms 103:11-12
