Taste and see the Lord is
good
Koshy George
CSI Jubilee Memorial Church, NY
11 Therefore encourage one another and build up each other,
as indeed you are doing.
Just like we taste honey and find that it is sweet, we can experience that the Lord is good. God becomes real in our life when we go through difficult experiences. We find that the Lord is good when we depend on Him for our daily needs. We read about men of God who went through various experiences in life that made them realize that the Lord is good and that He keeps His promises. Many hymns were written by authors who went through real life experiences. As the Psalmist wrote, “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him” Ps. 34:8.

God commanded Moses to encourage
and strengthen Joshua to lead Israel to the Promised Land. Moses was a
mentor to Joshua. “Mentoring” is not a word mentioned in the scripture,
but the concept is found throughout the Bible. The relationship between
the prophet Elijah and his successor Elisha is a prime example for
this. Leaving a legacy for those who follow us, may be the chief
benefit of mentoring another individual. A mentor or guru will encourage
and build up the student or trainee to be successful in life. Mentoring
may be a lost art in this age of technology where everybody is busy with face
book and texting but lack the one-on- one interaction.
In our Church and at home, are we
encouraging one another and building each other up ? Are we training our
youngsters in the right way, so that they will grow up to be better Christians
and useful citizens in the world? Younger people are asking, “Where can I
find a mentor?”
Human beings crave for appreciation and a little
encouragement can transform relationships especially in a marriage. Mark
Twain once said, “I can live for two months on a good compliment.” A kind
word can fuel our energy and fills us with new enthusiasm to face challenges
life throws our way.
PRAYER
Lord, help us to
taste that You are good. You have been good to us, but we have failed to
recognize that. Lord, open our eyes to other’s need for attention,
affection, and encouragement. Thank You for the power You have given us
to encourage others. May we grow in that ministry. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Encourage one another daily (Heb.3:13).
