Lent:
Time of Transformation
Sally Abraham
St. Thomas MTC, Yonkers-NY
3 Rend
your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is
gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents
from sending calamity.
This
verse is a call to repentance. A reminder that the time is at hand, as we do
not know what the morrow holds for us.
It’s not
the outer appearance or the countenance which is important, but the attitude,
we come with, is the focal point. A repentant heart is what the Lord our God is
looking for.
His love
is unconditional- and as the song writer-Thomas O Chisholm, who wrote the
famous hymn- Great is thy Faithfulness once said “God gives us the chance to
prove His Faithfulness and throughout history, He’s never once been proven
wrong, for His mercies are new every morning, no matter what.”
This loving Gracious
Father is waiting with arms outstretched for the return of His dear child. In
this period of Lent let us focus on this kind of transformation of our hearts,
while we spend time in His presence so that He speaks to us and convicts us of
our shortcomings.
PRAYER
Father ,
we come to you just as we are. Forgive us for the wrongs we have done.
Help us live so as to reflect Your presence in our lives. Lead us
each day -each step of our earthly journey, so that we will dwell in
Your presence for evermore. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
"All I know of
tomorrow is that God will rise before the sun."
