The Happy Home of the Faithful
Psalm 128
Alex Thomas & Dr. Susan Alex
Jackson, TN
1 Happy is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways. 2 You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall go well with you.
A life of blessing starts with the fear of the Lord. God’s blueprint for a happy home begins with a God-fearing man, supplemented by a fruitful, faithful woman, and eventually fruitful children. A man who fears God will be content, his joy is in the Lord, he will walk in His ways, he will use his time wisely and he will lead his family by example. The problems we encounter in our nation can be traced back to the problems in our homes, as the family is the building block of the nation. The proper fear of the Lord stems from knowing His holiness and power and it results in obedience to Him.
A happy home has a godly woman who will be fruitful and faithful in the home like a fruitful vine. Fruit of the vine in the Bible refers to joy and gladness (Judges 9:13, Psalms 104:15). A godly mother makes a home a happy home.
A happy home has fruitful children who will carry on the godly legacy of the home. In vs. 3, the children are described as “olive plants” around the table. As they are growing, they need the care, patience and the nourishing soil of a God-fearing home.
Persistent prayer, studying the Word of God and walking with the Lord daily is needed for a happy home. Those who fear the Lord and live in obedience to Him will be prosperous and successful (vs. 2), they will have a happy family life (Vs.3), and they will live to see their children’s children (vs.6) and they will see the growth of their church/community also (vs. 5-6). Even during the times of troubles and tribulations, their dependence on God will carry them through.
"The Family That Prays Together Stays Together."
PRAYER
O Lord , our Heavenly Father, we pray that You bless us with happy homes where Your name will be glorified. Help us to walk in Your ways always. We ask this in Your mighty name. Amen.
