Worship: Celebration of Faith of the People
Achamma Jacob
Long Island MTC, NY

12 But we appeal to you, brothers and sisters, to respect those who labor among you, and have charge of you in the Lord and admonish you; 13 esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

St. Paul gives many instructions for Christians in these verses. He asks us to respect those who are over us in the Lord- spiritual and church leaders. He also admonishes us to live in peace with others, encourage the timid, help the weak and to be patient with everyone. These are instructions for true followers of Christ to abide by.

FAITH :Faith and worship must begin at home. Our children must see it in our lives to properly learn it. They must see this reliance and trust we have in God. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” We must grow in faith so that it can allow us to have complete trust in Him. We must transition from church going people to true disciples of Christ. This would be evident in our reactions, words and attitudes. To grow in faith, we must live with Christ. John 15:5 clearly says, “ I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.” When we live with Him, He lives in us.

Despite our problems and struggles, we are to keep our eyes on Christ and He will guide us through it. St. Matthew 9:20-22 says, “20 Then suddenly a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his cloak, 21 for she said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be made well.” 22 Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well.” We don’t know if the woman ever saw Christ before this, but we do know that she believed in Him and trusted in His ability to heal her.

WORSHIP: Worship is giving reverence and honor to God, our creator and sustainer. Genesis 4:26 describes an early scene of worship. “ To Seth also a son was born, and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to invoke the name of the Lord.” As Seth did, we too must invoke the name of the Lord and let others see Christ in us because we are the temple of God.

PRAYER

Father, we are human and have weaknesses. Please help us to become real disciples of faith and worship. Amen.
