“The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my
deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of
my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalm 18:2 NIV
These
are words from a Psalm, on the day that the Lord delivered David from the hand
of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. David uses this opportunity to
praise the Lord for his triumph and victory over Saul. It is easy to see
from this and other psalms, as to why David was called upon by God to do great
things and to be a leader.
David in
all his achievements and even as a king, always made it a point to give all
glory to God. He acknowledged God was the source of all his strength, his
deliverer and his shield. David never mentions that any of his achievements
were due to his own merits. He also loved the Lord.
So what
makes certain people achieve greatness? If you have been promoted, have
graduated or served as a leader in church, do we pause and give all glory to
God? Most of us may pat ourselves on the back and forget that God was the one
who set our whole lives up for this successful event in our lives.
We are blessed to
enjoy many opportunities for success. We may also achieve great things
whether they impact one or many. Like David, let us use those great moments in
our lives to glorify God today.
PRAYER
Dear God, help us to
strive for greatness by seeking to glorify You in all circumstances. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
And whatever you do,
whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks
to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17
