“Women: Changemakers'’
Luke 1:46-50 - Mary’s Song
v46,47 - And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
In this bible passage, Mary is conversing with Elizabeth who asks how it could be that the mother of the promised Messiah is visiting her. We see Mary imbibe a spirit of praise and rejoice in the happiness of being recognized by God for being His faithful servant. These verses, collectively known as Mary’s Song, give us an insight into her temperament.
Society wouldn’t perceive Mary as anything special, being a young woman not from a wealthy family or of noble stature. She knew that she was a sinner and yet God chose her because of her devotion and humility. She praises Him and exudes gratitude for revealing her strength and capabilities as a woman that otherwise did not know her worth. Mary was aware of the perceptions of the community she was in and how she could potentially be ostracized for having a child out of wedlock. However, she did not once doubt God or her predicament, yet thanked Him for bestowing upon her countless blessings and such a responsibility. This teaches us that whatever situation God puts us in may not be understood by those around us now or ever, but our response in these times speaks volumes about who we are. He sees where our heart lies and showers us with blessings accordingly.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, give us the knowledge, wisdom and strength to grow with one another and fulfill our roles in this world according to your will. Amen.
