ANNUNCIATION TO MARY
Acts 18 :7-24
v 9 And the Lord spoke to Paul one night in a vision, “Don't be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, for I am with you…”
Chapter 18 of the book of Acts tells us the history of the first church in the city of Corinth. When we study the early church of Corinth, we see that God accomplishes His plan through every day people. We meet several characters like Aquilas, his wife Priscilla, Silas, Timothy, Titus Justus and Crispus, the leader of the synagogue as they play significant roles in strengthening and mobilizing the faith life of the church of the Corinth.
Paul, along with Silas and Timothy, put their heart into preaching the message of gospel and testifying to the Jewish people that Jesus is the Messiah. This chapter shows that God is able to do extraordinary things through everyday people, regardless of their background, race and profession. God has a plan for everyone in fulfilling his work. When Paul was called and consecrated for the Lord's mission, he submitted himself to the service of the Lord, in spite of hardships of the journey and atrocities from people.
Likewise, in Mary we see an ordinary young girl who found favor in the eyes of the Lord. God designed a divine mission for her. The Angel of the Lord announced to her the assignment of becoming the mother of the Savior of the world. Her conviction, faith, devotion, submission to the will of God led her to be the revered mother of our Lord Jesus, respected and adored in the years to come.
PRAYER
Lord, prepare us to be faithful devoted servants, useful in your ministry, Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Each one of us is called to grow up to be God-bearers, to carry the life of God within our own humanity.
