"The Pandemic Should Lead us to Firm Faith"

   Revelation 6: 8-17

In the Bible, pestilences and plagues are mentioned in the Old Testament Book of Exodus, as God's judgement against Pharaoh, in the gospels as end time signs and in the Book of Revelation as part of the final judgement. Throughout the human history, disease has killed people on a far more massive scale than world wars. After the consecration of the Jerusalem Temple, God proclaimed, “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land….” (2 Chronicles 7: 13-14). For a Bible-believing Child of God, pestilence plagues and disease should not be a surprise because the Word of God is living and active and it performs what it says. The pestilence of the 21st century, COVID 19 is different because it affected the whole world for the first time and on a much larger scale. It is like a trailer of a movie in the Book of Revelation; the worst is yet to come! Revelation 6:8-17, shows in great detail about the various judgement that will come upon the earth, which Jesus warned will happen in Luke 21. Everything Jesus said will come true and therefore we should prepare ourselves to face any Pandemic with faith in Christ Jesus. We should also teach our young generation so that they can also be prepared to face any Pandemic, with faith in Christ Jesus. He is the answer always. The COVID 19 Pandemic has exposed that nobody has the answer to eradicate this virus which attacked anyone in its path. Only God can bring it to a conclusion as we continue to adhere to all the rules and regulations.

What should our response be to the Pandemic? We can either respond in fear or in faith. We know that fear is not from God: For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7). We also know that perfect love casts out fear. The perfect love is Jesus. The Book of Revelation is about Jesus. Only He can walk us through the Pandemic. Only He can keep us safe in the Pandemic. The worst the Pandemic can do to us is to promote us to the Lord's presence early! Whether we live or die, it is in Christ Jesus. Fear is real, we cannot escape it. But, we need not be paralyzed with fear. The collateral damage the COVID 19 Pandemic has brought is so huge that none of us were prepared for it. None of us can comfort those who had to see the death of their loved ones. But God allowed us to wake up and live wisely. We need to build the altar of our prayer life and get back to the raw faith that comes from the Word of God. Instead of living a life of regret, let us not be moved by the Pandemic, but use the Pandemic to reset our lives by intentionally prioritizing to put God first. Allow the hard situation we went through to mature us spiritually. Give thanks to the Lord that we are here for a purpose, which is to complete His assignment on Earth. Let the story of the pandemic turn into glory. “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Ephesians 5: 14)

Prayer
Lord Jesus, We thank you for your grace that is sufficient for us to overcome any situations in life, which includes the Pandemic that has infected our World. Let your healing glory be poured out to bring this Pandemic to a conclusion. In Jesus Matchless Name,  Amen.
