 Jesus: Lord and God

 1 Peter 1:1- 9

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (Vs 3-5).

Here the apostle Peter opens his letter with words of praise for God the Father and His son, Jesus Christ, reminding us that salvation is a gift of God's mercy. Peter was writing to Christians who were sojourners in a foreign land, with a heavenly citizenship.

Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen”.  Jesus has risen from the dead so that our hope is not a wish. Our hope is not a dead hope or a lost hope. Any hope based on this world is already deteriorating and will soon be destroyed with this world. Every Christian has a living hope. It’s a certain expectation and anticipation of something that we know is coming, of an outcome that is certain to happen. The end or outcome of our faith will be rewarded with eternal life.

It is God’s desire for all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. God does not want that anyone would perish. He wants that all should come to repentance and faith in Christ. Jesus shed His blood on the cross for our transgressions and rose again on the third day so that we might be born into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, secured, and unfading that is kept in heaven for all who have trusted in Christ. We are kept safe by the power of God. He is the one who will preserve us in our faith to the end. God’s mercy is as infinite as He is infinite. God is guarding us. He is keeping our faith strong. Even in our suffering, we have every reason to rejoice because we are being saved by Jesus Christ. And as we go through various trials, we have our faith to hold on to. Our future is secure in Christ. Our eternal inheritance is awaiting us, and nothing can take that away from us. This is the sure hope of eternal life that we have in Christ Jesus our savior. Jesus is our source of hope. He is our only sacrificial lamb.

We are called to be obedient to our ‘election’, having been washed by the blood of Jesus - our God and our Savior. So, the God and the father of Jesus Christ is deserving our praises and adoration for His abundant grace and mercy.

Prayer

Dear God, help my soul to believe in you and trust in you fully, without a doubt knowing that in you all things are possible. O Lord, touch me, fill me with your light and your hope and strengthen my faith. Amen.

Thought for the day

“Our righteousness is in Him, and our hope depends, not upon the exercise of grace in us but upon the fullness of grace and love in Him, and upon His obedience unto death”. - John Newton.
