People of God: Ministry and Model

Isaiah 6:1-8

And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.” V. 3

Think of sight, like a waterfall, beach/ocean, mountain or beautiful sunset, and it inspired awe or amazement. I want you to take a moment and think about it, close your eyes and remember that moment.  Now if you tried to take a picture of that sight, were you satisfied with the picture.  Did you feel like the picture couldn’t really capture the sight as well as the experience of seeing it in person.  Recently we went to Sedona in Arizona, and the mountain landscapes were just so amazing.  No matter how many pictures I took, I couldn’t capture it all.  It’s just too beautiful to describe on a picture and it doesn’t matter what model camera or phone you might be using.  The experience of being there to see the sight and hearing the sound and feeling the atmosphere, the sun, the shadows are all part of what gives you that sense of awe.   It just can’t be captured on still life pictures because that moment itself is living. Whether it’s the sunset or even a mountain landscape it’s moving and changing and all of that gives you that sense of awe.   The Oxford dictionary has a word for great beauty and magnificence, and that is the word glory.
In Isaiah 6, we see a picture of heaven that Isaiah is trying to describe in earthly terms, and what amazes me is the Seraphs in attendance saying to one another “that the whole earth is full of God’s glory”.   They are saying to one another the whole earth is filled with great beauty and magnificence.  It’s like the Seraphs are getting a glimpse of earth and just telling each other look at the glory (beauty) of the earth the Lord has created.  And in response they are saying “Holy Holy Holy” because they are in awe of the creation that the Lord of hosts has made.  And below the throne you have Isaiah who is experiencing the holiness of God, by feeling the weight of his and Israel’s sin, by saying “woe is me”.  Both the Seraph’s from above and Isaiah from below are overwhelmed by the Holiness and Glory of God and ultimately Isaiah responds to this whole scene by submitting himself to God.
Do we take time to think about the Glory of God?   Spending some time reflecting on what God has created and thinking about the Creator will help us experience the Holiness of God, and lead us to  reflect His Glory on this earth.
Prayer
Lord fill me with your Spirit today, so that I might reflect your Glory to others today.
