People of God: Ministry and Model

St. Matthew 28:16-20

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” - v. 19

This passage is very well known to all of us, it is known as the Great Commission.  There are three important things to remember through reading this passage, they are Christ’s authority, His Assignment, and His assurance.  The Father gave The Son authority over Heaven and Earth and based on that authority Christ told the disciples to make more disciples.  This is the same authority that is given to all of us believers.  Christ gives us authority to make disciples; we are on this earth for a divine purpose: to enlighten the world we are placed in.  God only gives us what we can handle, sometimes it can seem overwhelming, but we need to ask ourselves if we have the passion to live out our lives for God’s purpose.  If we are available for Him, God can use us in extraordinary ways.

Whatever Christ assigns to us through His authority is a reminder that He is the Master, and we are His servants, and it should never be treated the other way around.  We need to submit fully to Him in all that we are.  We need to be willing to live outside our comfort zones.  COVID made us more comfortable than ever.  We fail to realize the main word of the great commission in the word ‘GO”.  We rather “STAY”.  If God has given us the health and the ability, we need to ‘go’ and live out God’s will in our lives.  We need to ‘go’ and worship Him, we need to ‘go’ and work for Him, and we need to ‘go’ and share His love for all of humanity.  We need to ‘go’ and live as long as God allows us to live on this earth.  God is a personal God, and He has made us personal beings, to live in relation to Him and be agents of His reconciliation with others.  His assurance is with us through the guidance and help of the Holy Spirit.  Do not think about our abilities but rather our availability, be willing and ready when God calls us to action, and He will guide us.

Jesus’ words affirm the reality of the Holy Trinity.  Christ told us to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Jesus talks about the Holy Trinity in His own words through this very commissioning.  God is the One who creates, sustains, and guides.  Let us worship our true God through our life and let Him sustain and guide us.

May God guide us in His ministry to lean on the great model in Christ.

Prayer:
Holy God, thank You for loving me so much, helping me to know I am created in this world with a purpose, Humble and guide me to live out Your purpose in this broken world.  Amen.
