Mar Thoma Church Day
John 14: 1-7“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
During this time period Jesus was hinting towards his disciples about his crucifixion and death. He was making sure that the disciples were ready in time to face this situation and promised them their own place in heaven. Despite all of this, the disciples were shook and nervous about where their master was going. Jesus said that he was getting a place ready for the disciples. However the disciples were skeptical and Thomas came forward to tell Jesus that he had no idea where he was going. This caused confusion because Thomas didn’t know where Jesus was going so how could he possibly know the way? However Jesus responded saying “I am the way and the truth and the life.”
“I am the way, the Truth…”
Jesus right here is the one leading and guiding us through the way to God. He exemplifies himself as the way and the only way to reach God. When he mentions “way” he is referring to himself and how the disciples should follow the right path which is Jesus. He also refers to himself as the truth because no one has ever reflected the truth, except Jesus.
“I am the Life”
Jesus says that “no one comes to the Father except through me”. This signifies that Jesus is the only reason to God and he is the only one that can lead us to God’s presence without shame. We are not worthy to go to God however we are led by Jesus. This leads to eternal Life, and allows us to grow as a community.
Through these powerful words Jesus explained the significance of following him. He tells the disciples that he is setting a place for all of us in heaven. The only way we can get to heaven is through Jesus himself, however we must understand that we are not worthy. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and he is the only way to heaven.
Prayer
O Lord, help us to understand that you are the way to heaven. Please give us the strength that we need to trust you daily and abide with you. Thank you Lord for being the Truth and allowing us to have full dependence on you. Please allow those around us to enter the kingdom of heaven through your love. In Jesus’ most precious name we pray, Amen.
