PEOPLE OF GOD – BODY OF JESUS CHRIST
v:15 But holding on to the truth in love, we may grow up into Him in all things, who is the “head” Christ..
The definition of a growing church is explained in ephesians 4:15-16. Apostle paul wanted to show what church growth is, and how it is accomplished. A completed building should end up looking like the model. Here the model is Christlikeness. While in the first part of the church growth, it is important to protect the spiritually immature christians from winds of different teachings , doctrines and concepts which are sent by satan to carry them away from Christ and the body of christ. It is difficult for the infants in christ to discern these. The only way to escape from these false teachings, is to stay in the body of christ where christ is the safeguard.
Paul wants everyone to grow up in all things into Him who is Christ the head. Church is therfore a growing one , where members will be able to become more and more like Jesus. Church is not defined by how many people meet ,when and where, but whether it consists of people of God who follow the commandments of Christ manifested to the world. Church grows when spirutally immature christians are corrected, trained, taught, encouraged and equipped, so that they become more mature christians.
God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love – christ like in everything. We take our lead from Christ who is the source of everything we do. As the whole body is held together by the joints with which it is connected, under Christ's control the body of christ will fit together and the effective working of the people of God cause the growth of the church in love.
The growth of the body of Christ is the increase of Jesus the Lord in the church which results in building up of the body by members themselves. Church growth happens also when its members start reading and learning Bible, care to obey the words of truth, which in turn help them learn what their sipitual gifts are and finding ways to put them into practice. Ultimately they learn to live and love Jesus . This the true biblical church growth.
Lord help us to grow as mature Christians, work together for the glory of God. Help us to practice the Christ likeness in our worship places, and enable us to grow as a body of Christ.
A growing church is not defined by the number of people
meet, how , when and where or how much money in the ministry budget, but by the love and Christ like practiced by a group of mature Christians.
