FAMILY – AN EXPRESSION OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD
Bible portion: Acts:10 1-8
Verse:2 He and all his family were devout and God fearing,he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly.
It is interesting to note that Cornelius was Roman, a gentile and a centurion in the italian regiment. Caesarea was located 30 miles north of Joppa , which was named after Augustus Caesar. A centurion commanded at least 100 men. Roman centurions provided stability to the entire Roman system. His legacy was in how he and his all his family loved the Lord, generous, and a prayer warrior on a regular basis.
He worshipped Lord with a sincere heart. His motives were good. What one needs to know is that nothing escapes God's notice whether it is good or bad. Cornelius received a comfort and conviction that his prayers and generosity reached heavenly realms. Cornelius was not a Jew but he believed in one God and respected the moral and ethical teachings of the Jews. His heart was tuned to God, he longed to please God, he was ready to obey God immediately, by sending his devout men to find Peter.
As Jesus promised , blessed are those with a pure heart, they will see God.
There are mainly two main points we need to understand and ponder upon: 1. EVERYONE NEED TO BELIEVE IN CHRIST FOR SALVATION
Cornelius was kind and considerate, and turned away from idolatry. Whole family worshipped one true and only God. Question: Does he really need to believe in Jesus to be saved? Yes Indeed. God decided to reward him with eternal life. Instead of congratulating him, God sent his angel to warn him of the need to fetch Peter and listen to the good news in order to get saved. 2. GOD SENDS THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST TO BRING SINNERS TO SALVATION. We need to understand that God sees our secret matters than outward appearance. He sees your heart than actiions . He knows your motives, every prayer you uttered, every person you helped, and looking for a sincere and true worshipper.
God continues to do the same work even today. He continues to send the gospel of Christ to bring people in every place to salvation. We as co- labourers should work with God in fulfilling the mission. It is good to remember that every marthomite is an evangelist.
Prayer
Dear Lord, we invite you into our lives. Help us to become rooted in you. We thank you that our worth and our purpose is found in you. To you belong eternal praise. Amen
Thought for the Day
Examine and do an inventory of your heart and motives in your service to Christ. Is your kneel real as Cornelius?
