Being well educated is something many take great pride in. We often give importance only to acquiring knowledge and new skills. While this is still very much needed, knowledge alone does not amount to wisdom. Wisdom is about understanding and applying the knowledge in the way that aligns with the will of God.
In the first part of today’s passage Paul discusses the mystery “Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in” (v26). Sometimes God’s plans are beyond our understanding; they are a mystery for us. However, we must remember, God’s understanding surpasses our own.
In the second part of today’s passage, Paul describes the depth of God’s wisdom and knowledge. He describes God’s judgements as unsearchable and his paths as beyond tracing out. A part of our education should be trying to understand God’s ways. Our education should be a means by which we discover and appreciate the richness of God’s creation and His divine order.
Finally, in the last verse of today’s passage we are reminded where true wisdom comes from. “For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.” (v36). All things come from God, including wisdom. God should be at the center of all our learning. Our education should lead us to worship and glorify Him.

Prayer
Dear Lord, we thank you for the gift of education. We pray that we are able to keep you in the center of our learning. Help us to seek not just knowledge but true wisdom that comes from You alone. May our education lead us to glorify you. All this we ask in your Mighty name. Amen.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and It will be given to you.” James 1:5
