Path to Humility
Bible portion: Micah 6: 6-8

” What does the Lord require of you ? “Micah 6:8

Devotion

Many times we comment on others for their humility . This reminds of a joke about a leader who was given an award for humility ,because he accepted the award ,it was taken back the following week.
Micah 6:6-8 describes a full description of three main attributes of God - Love, Mercy and Humility . This is a three fold standard mandate God expects from every human being. All three are inter bonded, and can not be expressed separately . Justice without mercy and humility turns us to self righteousness. Mercy without justice and humility turns us selfish . Humility without justice and mercy turns us to in effective .”With what shall I come before the Lord “ (V:6) This is a question for all people of every age . The conventional Lord is also the transsendent God. Micah is exposing an attitude that wrongly sees sacrifice as an entry fee ,rather than an avenue for God to administer grace and forgiveness to fallen human kind.
The Lord desires and opts the primary forms of Love- Justice (do justice) Mercy ( show kindness) Faithfulness ( walk humbly ) as the expressed response of His people to His redemptive acts . The path to humility is twofold, it involves who we are -having a proper self esteem rather than thinking too highly of self. Secondly , it requires knowing who God is ,holding Him in highest esteem and turning our entire life situations to Him alone all the time .
PRAYER
: “ Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up “ James 4:10

Thought for the Day

When we think we’re humble - we’re not .
