Created in the Image of God - Human Dignity

Bible Reading: Genesis 1:26-28

Key verse: V27 “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” 

DEVOTION

In Genesis 1:26-28, we are reminded that every human being is made in the image of God. This truth not only sets humanity apart from the rest of creation but also calls us to recognize the inherent worth and dignity in every person. Having visited mission fields in India, we have seen firsthand how society often overlooks or diminishes the dignity of the vulnerable, those in old age homes, children in need, and people affected by diseases like HIV/AIDS. Yet, in those faces, we could still see the beauty of God’s image.
It’s easy to forget that the value God places on each life transcends circumstances, health, or social status. When we visited the de-addiction center, we were reminded that no one is too broken or forgotten for God’s love. Each individual, no matter their story, carries the divine imprint of our Creator. This is a powerful message, not just for how we see others but how we see ourselves.
As I work with students and engage in community outreach, I reflect on this truth daily. The image of God in each person calls us to fight for justice, uplift the downtrodden, and treat one another with respect and kindness. We are all beloved in God’s sight, deserving of care and compassion.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for creating us in Your image. Help us to see the dignity and worth in ourselves and others, and to treat everyone with love, respect, and kindness. Amen.

PRIESTHOOD: THE ANOINTED MINISTRY Exodus 40:12-16 Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting... wash them with water. Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments, anoint him and consecrate him so he may serve me as priest (Exodus 40: 12-13). Priesthood among the people of God was a divine command and initiation. God wanted some people to be separated for the special ministry among his people. God appointed Aaron and his descendants to take up this kind of ministry among the people of God. Priests are always separated and appointed as channels that connect God with his people. All throughout the history of Israel, priests played an important role in connecting people with God and to lead and guide them in the statutes of God. But there are incidents in the Bible where the priests failed in their duties and that led the people to go away from God.
