Glorifying God Together
Bible Reading: Romans 15:1-7
Key Verse: (vv. 1-2) We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.
DEVOTION
The theme reminds us that glorifying God requires a life of selflessness. In our culture and community, selfishness often becomes ingrained in our character in subtle and overt ways. We frequently hear the phrase, "It’s a dog-eat-dog world," and this mindset drives us to prioritize our own advancement, often at the expense of those around us. We strive to prove our worth, showing others that we are relevant and capable. But how often do we genuinely consider the needs and well-being of others?
On our own, it’s nearly impossible to rise above this selfish nature—we are often led astray by our own desires. This is why we must remain deeply connected to Christ. As verse 3 reminds us, Christ did not live to please Himself. Instead, He modeled selflessness, always regarding and caring for those around Him.
Verses 5 and 6 challenge us to live in harmony, encouraging one another in unity. Verse 6 emphasizes being of one mind and one voice, glorifying God together. This calls for self-examination in every area of life—home, work, school, and even church. Are we willing to set aside differences and pursue unity? Or do we allow divisions, fueled by differing opinions, to drive us apart? Too often, intolerance and pride hinder our relationships.
Verse 7 offers a profound reminder: we are to accept one another as Christ accepted us. Despite our weaknesses and sinfulness, Christ welcomed us with grace and humility, even though we were unworthy of His acceptance. In the same way, we are called to put aside our pride and ego, humbling ourselves to work together. This selfless unity is not just for our benefit—it brings glory to God. Let us strive to cultivate selflessness, unity, and humility in every aspect of our lives, reflecting the heart of Christ and glorifying God through our actions.
PRAYER
Triune God, guide us to remember how much You love us, and to love You with all that we are, and through that, to love our neighbor as we love ourself. Amen.
