Unity of the churches - For the witness of the Kingdom of God
Bible Reading: St. John 17:20-23
Key Verse: “that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me, and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” (St.John 17:21)
DEVOTION
Saint Francis of Assisi wrote, “Make me a channel of your peace.” In the 1960s, Father Peter Scholtes wrote the song “We are One in the Spirit… and they’ll know we are Christians by our love.” Both Saint Francis and Father Peter wanted to show Christ through their life actions.
In John 17:20-23, Jesus is praying to the Father for those who believe in Him then and on all those who will believe in Him in the future that they all will be one. Jesus wants all of us to be in unity. There is a saying, “be the change you want to see.” Dear friend, let’s ask God to help us to become an instrument in his hands to create unity in the midst of chaos. It is not possible with human strength alone, but with Christ’s love in us and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can do this.
God’s love will help us to forgive and reconcile. Once filled with God’s love we will also respect the fellow being, our coworkers, our boss, and treat others with dignity. All gossip will stop at our station so it will not create war in our environment. In 2 Corinthians 3:2, Paul says that we are like letters, with our lives being read by others. Our friends see Christ not just in the Bible, but through our actions and character. May God help us strive to be instruments of unity and peace.
