Christ: Son and King

Bible Reading:  Hebrews 1: 5-9

Key Verse: “Your Throne, O God, will last forever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.” - Hebrews 1:8

DEVOTION

In Hebrews 1:5-9, we are reminded of the unique identity of Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the eternal King. This passage sets Jesus apart from the angels, declaring His divine sonship and supreme authority. Unlike angels, who serve as messengers, Jesus is exalted as the radiance of God’s glory, ruling with justice and righteousness. These angels worship Him, thus proving His divine authority. Although Christ is fully God, He is also distinct from the Father. When God brings His only Son into the world, He is to be worshiped.

The throne of Christ is eternal, and His kingdom is marked by righteousness. In verse 9, we read: "You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy." This reveals the heart of Christ’s reign—His love for righteousness and His perfect hatred of sin.

As followers of Christ, it is important to acknowledge Him as both Son and King. During this Christmas season, we celebrate not only His birth but also His eternal kingship—a kingship that brings joy and renewal as He works to establish justice and righteousness in the lives of His people. May we humbly submit to His authority and strive to reflect His righteousness in our daily lives.

  PRAYER

Lord Jesus Christ, You are the Son of God and the eternal King. Thank you for reigning with justice, righteousness, and love. Allow us to honor you in all that we do in our lives, and to reflect Your character in our lives. May your eternal reign bring comfort, transformation, and joy in our hearts. Amen

Thought of the day

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." – Isaiah 9:6
