Bible Reading: Malachi 3 : 1-4
Key Verse: ““I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty.” Malachi 3:1
DEVOTION
Malachi means my messenger. God sent John the Baptist as the forerunner of Jesus Christ, to prepare the way for Him. He was the voice in the wilderness. He preached to repent. John prepared the hearts and minds of the people to receive the Messiah. He baptized them in the river Jordan with a baptism of repentance.
The purpose of the first advent of Jesus or his incarnation was to vicariously die on the cross to redeem us from our sins. Jesus lived in obscurity till he was baptized by John, which marked the beginning of his ministry. He healed the sick, expelled demons, raised the dead, preached and taught about the kingdom of God.
The second coming of Jesus Christ will be at an unpredictable time to judge and to set up his kingdom. We have to prepare ourselves and others for His second coming, which can be at any moment. Live with expectation of his arrival, live a life pleasing in His sight.
