Arrival of the Savior of the World

Bible Reading:  St. John 1:9-14

Key Verse: “The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.” (St John 1:9)

DEVOTION

Light is used in the Bible as a symbol of life, knowledge and goodness. A key aspect of Christ’s nature that John highlights is that He is the bearer of light. Jesus brings the revelation of God’s life and light into a dark world. We are reminded that Jesus is the true light and this light is not limited but shined to the whole world.

Jesus is the true light of God for those who partake of his salvation. When we receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, He makes God’s light shine in our hearts so we can know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. Those who trust in Jesus and believe in the light become children of light. As children of the light, we are called to bring his salvation to the ends of the earth. Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Mathew 5:16). Jesus Christ is the true light of God sent into the world to pierce through the darkness. Through his life, ministry and message, Jesus brought the light and life of God to bear on everyone he encountered. We must accept the true light inorder to be saved from sin.

In your light, we see the light, Jesus, full of light. It’s your light that shines upon our world, light our minds. May your light reveal the sin in our hearts. As we humbly pray, in spirit and truth.

  PRAYER

Heavenly Father, open our hearts and minds to the guidance of your spirit. Reveal to us the sins in our lives so that we may be saved by your grace. Amen

Thought of the day

Jesus, the true Light, reveals God’s glory and calls us to shine.
