Christ’s Birth brings True Freedom

Bible Reading:  Galatians 4:1-7

Key Verse: But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. (Galatians 4: 4-5)

DEVOTION

God saw the condition of his creation in bondage under the law of justification for salvation. So, when the time had come, God sent his one and only son Jesus to be born into this world, to redeem us from the curse of that law. This demonstrates the unconditional love of our heavenly father towards his creation. John 3:16 clearly describes our Abba father’s love, “For God so loved the world that he gave, his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”. Jesus purchased us out from the law and the slavery of sin through his blood. Jesus didn’t stop there instead through his death he gave us the “title of sonship” – a title that is inclusive of every human being not exclusive for a certain individual/sect/group. Jesus has made us heirs to his kingdom. In other words, since we are the children of God, we are set to share the inheritance of God, prepared for those who love him. Romans 8:17 says, “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together”. A preacher once said, when a person is saved, the law moves to a side and loves moves to the center. How true!
The time for celebrating our savior’s birth has come! Our Christian responsibility is to celebrate Christ’s birth by living in the light and being the light to others for we are lighted to lighten. That is the message of Christmas. When God has given us the privilege to be his sons and daughters why should we chose to be a slave?

   PRAYER

Lord Jesus, we thank you for giving us this privilege to be your sons/daughters. Help us, to have those attributes of the Heavenly King’s sons and daughters and never to live our lives reflecting the ways of this world. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Thought of the day

The freedom of sonship was purchased by a heavy price. Let us not take that for granted and forget Christ- the reason for the season!
