Leaving a legacy means you make an impact on future generations by leaving some life values ,wisdom ,wealth or some other influence that makes a difference long after you are gone . When it comes to spiritual legacy, there are many recorded in both the Old Testament and New Testament. The prime legacy left was “ genuine faith in God”. Right from the life of Abraham to Moses . From Paul to Timothy to many first century church pioneers . From our grandparents to our parents. This legacy transmitted from generation to generations without diluting its core value.
Paul has already called young Timothy as his dear son (V.2) He now recalls Timothy’s tears personable at the occasion of their last parting of ways and longs to see him . The reason for Paul’s gratitude is Timothy’s sincere faith ,which bodes well for the disciple’s carrying on the apostle’s legacy . The permeance of this faith is apparent in that Timothy carries on the living faith of both his grandmother Lois and mother Eunice. Paul sincerely expresses his gratitude to God in his prayers for his young ministry partner.
We don’t nurture our children the same way as Jewish or Greek culture as Timothy was disciplined at a young age. Though the Christian faith remains the same, do we release our children to the Lord and His will for their lives demands great faith ? As our children grow up ,we need to prayerfully entrust them to God’s care. If we do,we will experience the peace and joy of knowing that God loves them even more than we do. Timothy was of mixed parentage ,a gentile father and a Jewish mother . He became Paul’s intern traveling companion and a trusted warrior for Christ.
Parents and grandparents , your influence and timely wise decisions can affect our generations . Let’s also leave a spiritual legacy for our loved ones and others as Lois and Eunice .
