Pursuing Peace and Mutual Edification

Bible Reading: John 2:1-11

Key Verse “and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.” John 2:9

DEVOTION

This passage is John’s account of the first instance Jesus proves that He is the Son of God. Looking deeper into this miracle, we can reflect on this transformation of water into wine. The servants followed Jesus’ instructions without question, despite not knowing the purpose of filling the jars with cleansing water.
This act of obedience reflects the kind of trust we are called to have in God and the unconditional faith that fuels our transformation. It may be difficult, but living an active Christian life requires us to surrender to God, giving Him full control to mold us into the people He created us to be. Although it may not always make sense at the moment, God’s timing is perfect. Jesus made this clear in verse 4, and continues to emphasize this in the Word, and in our lives. The purification of the ceremonial cleansing water into wine signifies that we are purified by the blood of Jesus.
Maintaining an open mind and a consistent relationship with God is how we can allow ourselves to be renewed for God’s will. Each of us was created with purpose. We must open our minds and souls to allow Jesus to transform us, just as He transformed water to wine.

   PRAYER

Father God, thank you for revealing your power and your perfect time through this miracle. We pray for those having trouble giving you full control. Help us to be obedient to you, and open our hearts to allow you to transform us. We pray that you renew us for the purpose you have created us for. In your precious name we pray. Amen.

Thought for the day

God is constantly revealing Himself to us, but are we paying attention?
