Jesus Christ Who Gives Healing and Redemption From Sin

Bible Reading: John 4:6-11

Key Verse: “Jesus answered her, if you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water”(Vs 10)

DEVOTION

The story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well is one of the most iconic encounters in the Bible. While traveling through Samaria on His way to Galilee, Jesus stopped at a well in Sychar around noon as His disciples went in to buy food. There, He encountered a Samaritan woman who had come to draw water. She was an outcast, burdened by her past and defined by society's judgment. Yet when Jesus met her He did not condemn her. Instead, with compassion, He revealed her brokenness and offered her the living water, transforming her from spiritual desolation to divine fulfillment.
Jesus Christ Breaks all Barriers that Separate People: The Jews and Samaritans were historic enemies. By speaking to the Samaritan woman, Jesus broke the racial, cultural, and gender barriers that existed between them. Through their dialogue, He discovered her troubled life and offered her the LIVING WATER, symbolizing eternal life through Him. Instead of condemning her, Jesus gently acknowledged her past and offered a path to redemption, showing that He knew her fully yet still extended His grace. He refused to follow human expectations that contradicted God’s law of love, demonstrating His mission to reach all people, regardless of their background or past.
Jesus Christ Heals and Redeems the Broken: The story perfectly reflects the phrase, “God is in the habit of creating beauty from ashes; He builds towers from trash heaps”. It is a reminder of God’s redemptive power. God does not discard the broken; He reshapes them. He does not leave ruins in despair; He restores them into something greater. The Samaritan woman was aware of her imperfections, shame, and disgrace. She felt guilt and sorrow because of her lifestyle. Yet, even when life seems like a pile of ashes or discarded things, God can transform it into something purposeful and magnificent.
Jesus Christ Makes Her a Vessel of His Grace: Jesus crafted something beautiful from the ashes of her past. He didn’t just redeem her; He made her a vessel of His grace. The woman who once hid in shame became a bold evangelist, running back to her village to proclaim the Messiah. Her testimony led many in her community to believe in Jesus Christ, showing that redemption brings purpose and the power to lead others to Him.

PRAYER
