The Embodiment of the Word
Bible Reading:   Galatians 4: 1-7
 Galatians 4:7
“So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”

DEVOTION

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”(John 1:1). The Book of Genesis describes God’s Creation.  It is by the Word of God that Creation occurs.  So St. John’s introduction of Jesus as Word is apt.  God’s son equaling the Father inherits the Kingdom of God.  He is the true heir.  St. Paul wants Galatians to understand the importance and honor they derived by relinquishing their worldly condition of being slaves and by accepting Jesus Christ, the embodiment of the Word, as their master and the lord.  They got the privilege of becoming the children of God, by which they became heirs of God’s Kingdom.  Paul asks them to trust in Jesus implicitly.  They should not go back to their sinful life that they led before accepting Jesus as their Savior.
The Holy Spirit, in these modern times, repeatedly tells us this truth.  Though we are labeled as Christians, do we lead a life that makes us worthy to become inheritors of the Kingdom of God?  The Apostle advises us to become God’s children by ‘not letting any unwholesome talk come out of our mouths in our daily life.  We should not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom we are sealed for the day of redemption’.  “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.  Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave us”(Ephesians 4: 31-32).

PRAYER

Oh Lord Jesus, teach us to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves, and to believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior.  We are sinners.  We repent of our sins. Save us from the slavery of sin and make us your heirs thereby becoming the inheritors of the Kingdom of God, Amen.
