The Cry for Salvation: The Coming of the Messiah
Bible Reading: Matthew 21:1-17
"Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" (Matthew 21:9).
DEVOTION

Introduction
The triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem fulfilled prophecy, yet many mistaken His exact mission. The people cried out for salvation, expecting a political king, but Jesus came as the Savior of their souls. His entry, the cleansing of the temple, and the praises of children reveal how God’s kingdom operates differently from worldly expectations. "The same crowd that shouts 'Hosanna' today may cry 'Crucify Him' tomorrow. Faith must go beyond emotions to a true surrender."
1. The Expectation of a Savior
The people of Jerusalem rejoiced, crying “Hosanna”—which means "Save us, Lord." However, their focus was on earthly liberation rather than spiritual renewal. Jesus came to offer salvation from sin, not just political freedom. Even today, we must ask ourselves: Are we seeking temporary solutions or true salvation?
2. The Cleansing of the Temple
Upon entering Jerusalem, Jesus went straight to the temple and cleansed it, driving out corruption. This act reminds us that salvation begins with a transformed heart. Just as Jesus purified the temple, He calls us to cleanse our lives from anything that hinders true worship.
3. The Rejection and the True King
While children joyfully praised Jesus, the religious leaders rejected Him. Many failed to recognize the Messiah in their life. Even today, the world often rejects Christ in favor of their desires. True salvation comes when we welcome Jesus with words, faith, and obedience.
Conclusion
The coming of Jesus into Jerusalem was a moment of great expectation, but only those with faith truly recognized Him as the Messiah. Today, He still seeks hearts that welcome Him with genuine submission. Let us not just cry out for salvation in times of need but submit to Him as the King of our lives. Tony Evans said, “Jesus didn’t come to take sides; He came to take over.”

PRAYER

Lord, open our eyes to see you as the true Lord and Savior. Cleanse our hearts and worship you in spirit and truth. Amen.
