Christ’s Path to the Cross
Bible Reading:   Hebrews 2:10-18
Key Verse: “In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered.” Hebrew 2:10.

DEVOTION

As we reflect on the theme Christ’s Path to the Cross, today’s passage reminds us that it was “fitting” for Jesus to suffer and die on the cross for our salvation. Jesus was fully human and fully divine. We see His human nature revealed in this passage when it says He is not ashamed to call us brothers and sisters. Because He was fully human and yet without sin, He became the perfect sacrifice on our behalf. He went before the Father as our great High Priest and made atonement for our sin.
Because He suffered and was tempted, He is able to help us when we suffer and are tempted. He is not distant from our pain. It is during the difficult times in our lives that He carries us. Through His suffering, He defeated the power of death and broke the hold of fear and sin over our lives. The wages of sin was death, but through Christ’s death on the cross, we have been saved from the bondage of sin.
During this Holy Week, as we reflect on Christ’s Path to the Cross, let us remember the depth of His love for us, the weight of His sacrifice and the new life we now have through Him.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, we thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and defeating death. Help us to draw closer to you and remember that it is during our suffering that you carry us. When we are weak, remind us You are near. Help us walk in the freedom and hope You have given. Amen
