Watchfulness in Tribulation
Bible Reading:  Matthew 24:3-14
Key Verse: Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah’ and will deceive many.  You will hear of wars & rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed.  Mathew 24:4-6

DEVOTION

In Matthew 24:3-14, Jesus warns His disciples about the tribulations that will precede His second coming. He calls us to be watchful in times of trial, offering guidance for how to navigate the challenges of life.
Jesus begins by urging us not to be deceived (Matthew 24:4). In times of crisis, false teachings can easily creep in, leading us away from the truth. We must stay rooted in God’s Word and discern the voices around us.
He also tells us not to be alarmed by wars, famines, or earthquakes (Matthew 24:6-8). These struggles are part of a larger plan unfolding according to God’s will. While difficult, they are not signs of abandonment, but reminders to trust in God’s sovereignty.
Persecution will follow for those who stand firm in the faith (Matthew 24:9-10). The cost of discipleship is high, but Jesus encourages us to persevere. "The one who stands firm to the end will be saved" (Matthew 24:13). It is through our endurance that we witness to the world.
Finally, Jesus reminds us that despite these hardships, the gospel will continue to spread (Matthew 24:14). Even in tribulation, God’s kingdom advances.
Let us remain watchful, trusting God through trials, standing firm in faith, and sharing the hope of Christ with others.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your Word, which reminds us to be watchful and faithful in times of tribulation. Help us to stay alert to the signs of the times, to hold fast to the truth, and to persevere in faith, no matter the challenges we face. Strengthen us through Your Spirit to endure and to keep spreading the hope of the gospel to a hurting world. May we find our peace and security in You alone, trusting that You are with us every step of the way. We look forward to the day when You return in glory.  In Jesus' name, Amen.

Thought for the day

Let us ask the Lord to help us remain faithful and watchful during trials, trusting in His perfect plan. We need strength to endure God’s plan for us so may we continue to spread the gospel.
